Parliament is set to host Dr. Derrick Samuels (L), a motivational speaker and President of the Derrick Samuels Leadership Institute in the United States and Senator James F. Clayborne (R) from Illinois State for the forthcoming National Prayer Breakfast.

KAMPALA – Uganda’s Parliament is set to host the 20th National Prayer Breakfast with an aim of praying for the country and renewing people’s commitment to God.

Running under the theme, ‘All hard work brings profit but mere talk leads to poverty,’ the Minister of State for Finance, David Bahati, who is also Chairperson Organising Committee for the Breakfast said they will host two American keynote speakers: Dr. Derrick Samuels and Senator James F. Clayborne.

The event will be held on 8 October at Hotel Africana, ahead of the country’s Independence Day celebrations – with the President, Yoweri Museveni expected to be the chief guest.

Who are the Speakers?

Dr. Derrick Samuels is the ‘Voice against Stagnation’, addressing more than 150,000 people worldwide each year. He is the Founder and President of Derrick Samuels Leadership Institute (DLSI) and, CGI and; the host of ‘Evening with Dr. Derrick’, where he shares keys to wisdom that help listeners circumnavigate the pull of mediocrity, the temptation to do “just enough,” or settle for a life less than the best.

As a highly passionate speaker, highly regarded business consultant, author, professor, transformational leader, he embodies the skill, integrity, vision and drive to become one of the most prominent inspiring thought leaders.

Dr. Derrick, among other places, has spoken at the United Nations as an advocate for Youth Education, Development and Sustainability; he was the Commencement speaker, class of 2014, at the State University of New York (SUNY/BEOC); Seminar Facilitator for the Military on Leadership and Project Management at the Andrew Airforce Base in Maryland, USA, Guest speaker: RGB, FUE, KCB, ZT (RW), BIAZO, WIM-RCCGNA, among others.

Dr. Derrick Samuels has consulted widely in business and government, as well as within the higher education community. He has served in an advisory capacity to two Universities and two corporate institutions. He is the recipient of numerous awards, honors, and commendations.

Dr. Derrick Samuels, a Certified Project Management Professional, holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, an MBA in Management and; PhD in Applied Management and Decision Sciences and; has taught for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, American Military University, and Thomas Edison State University among others.

On the other hand, State Senator James F. Clayborne Jr. (D-Belleville) has tirelessly promoted the growth of safe and healthy families in his Metro East district since first being appointed in 1995 and then elected in 1996.

The senator serves as the majority leader in the Senate, chairs the Assignments Committee and serves on the Executive Appointments, Insurance and Executive committees.

Clayborne graduated from Tennessee State University in 1985, and in 1988 earned his juris doctorate degree from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Fla.

He is a former assistant state’s attorney in St. Clair County. Additionally, he served as a child support prosecutor, a supervisor in the St. Clair County Juvenile Abuse and Neglect Division, a supervisor in Felony Probation Revocations and a felony prosecutor. He also was one of 50 attorneys selected nationwide to participate in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Law Institute in Quantico, Virginia.

Currently, Clayborne is a partner with his firm of Clayborne, Sabo & Wagner of Belleville where he focuses on civil litigation defence.

In his spare time, the senator is involved in a host of civic and community organizations. He hosts a college bus tour twice a year, which is open to all high school students in his district. Clayborne also is an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in East St. Louis.
