3 Ways to Pray when you’re too stressed to know how

We’ve all been there. Something is happening in our life and we need God to help us. We NEED Him to show us what direction to go in. We need Him to open up an opportunity for us that may seem impossible. We need Him to help us land a job or come through for us financially. We need Him to heal us physically. Whatever it is, the bottom line is that we all need prayers answered.

But sometimes, I don’t care how saved and sanctified you are, it feels like God is not listening. It feels like our prayers went straight to His spam mailbox and He is ignoring us. You started out having faith, but as time goes on, your situation LOOKS like it’s getting worse. It looks like praying is useless and that you’re wasting your time..Where is God?? Why is He not answering me?? What the heck is going on?? Let’s keep it real…Your patience is growing thin. You’re losing hope and you’re tired of praying…

So what do you do???
When you’re overwhelmed, whisper His name.  Remember receiving a first love note? It didn’t have to be long. Yet your heart felt known seeing your handwritten name. It kept you company in the daily grind, the mention of your name.
Whisper His name and listen for his echo in the quiet moments in your day.
God names the stars and He whispers your name.
“He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.
He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them.”
-Psalm 147:3-5

Get some scriptures to stand on. I don’t know what you’re believing in God for, but I can guarantee you that there’s a promise in the bible for that certain thing. If you don’t know some…GOOGLE IT. I’m so serious. If its finances, LITERALLY google “scriptures on finances” and I’m sure you’ll find tons. Trust and believe that the devil will do EVERYTHING in His power to get you to be in fear instead of faith. You literally have to speak the word of God over your life. You’re gonna have to open your mouth and SPEAK the word of God. I’m not saying this to be “deep”, I’m saying this from experience. It works.

The devil is gonna attack you mentally by making you QUESTION if God is really gonna come through for you like He promised. YOU have to take authority over that foolishness and stand on what God said. I’ll never forget when God put me in check and told me “Stop looking at what it LOOKS like and start looking what I SAID. It is impossible for Me to lie”.

When you are too stressed to pray, take care of you.  Extend yourself the kindness and comfort you so generously give others. Ironically, the times we most need God’s comfort are the times we deprive ourselves of soul-nurturing time.
We feel selfish. Yet, God says, we can only comfort others, with the comfort we first receive ourselves. (2 Cor 1:4)
Instead of layering on guilt, head in the opposite direction. Let God love you through your choices to prioritize taking care of you.

When you are numb and don’t want to pray, invite Jesus into your world. Instead of struggling to reach Jesus, invite Jesus to enter your world.  Let us strive to enter that rest. . . . For the word of God is living and active. . . It penetrates dividing soul and spirit..” Heb. 4:11–12

The “the word of God” used here is the Greek word logos—translated as living voice. This means God is not limited to the written word.
God uses everything living to speak into our lives. He knows what’s on your heart and the everyday life you are living. God leaves us love notes in that everyday life to let us know: you are God’s living prayer. Take a walk outside. Listen to music. Read a good book. Confide in a friend with a cup of coffee.

Lastly, Keep it real with God. A lot of us are fake with God even though He is the creator of everything under the sun and KNOWS EVERYTHING. If you’re tired of praying. Tell God. Ask Him to renew your strength and He will. Tell Him your worries, your doubts, your fears. Ask Him to help you stand strong and He will.
