Answering God’s call: It’s not a waste of time

Acknowledging God's call and responding to it is a life-changing experience.

“Why did God create me?”

“What is my purpose here on earth?”

At some point in life, these are questions Christians all across the globe ask themselves.

In his sermon delivered at Streams of Life Church – Kampala, Pr Gerald Mwebe described God’s call as one of life’s greatest opportunity, adding that it requires faithful and active obedience, unwavering commitment, and devotion.

He explained that doors of supreme opportunity begin to swing wide open when one hears and responds to the call of God wholeheartedly.

“The first call is a call to salvation, and this is to the whole world,” Pastor Gerald Mwebe said.

“The second call is a call to service and this is to every believer. None of us was saved to [simply] fill up space in the kingdom of God – Your life has purpose,” he added.

According to the preacher, “nothing compares to the call of God upon your life” and once you overcome all fear of uncertainty and follow Him, you will “never regret it.”

Pastor Mwebe also cautioned that fear of man can immobilize believers when they should take action.

“Many people in the Church take the call of God upon their lives as a secondary thing. Some are even embarrassed about the fact that God has called them,” he said. “Very few are willing to lay down everything to pursue the call of God upon their lives.”

“Why don’t people answer the call of God? Fear of the unknown. They wonder, ‘how will I be able to build my house or educate my children?’ Listen to what scripture says, 1 Thessalonians 5:24: ‘The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.'” he said. “Many times, to pursue the call of God, you have to leave certain things.”

He continued, “Pursuing the call of God on your life is what will separate you from the crowd and make you an extra ordinary Christian. God has called us to be coworkers in the Kingdom that is why He has placed that specific call on your life.”

Pastor Gerald started ministry at a tender age. He says that shortly after graduating from Makerere University, “I felt the call of God.”

He says that some of his friends perceived his move to ministry as a sign of laziness, and excuse to avoid working in the corporate world.

“Many argue that when I give the call of God utmost priority, am I not wasting time? The people closest to you are some time your greatest discouragers in following the call of God,” he said. “No body ever follows the call of God at a loss.”

“There is nothing that compares to being a preacher of the gospel. Paul says, ‘I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.'” Pastor Gerald observed, later quoting Philippians 3:4-7

Ultimately, Pr Gerald remarked, any God-given calling will point back to Him.
