Apostle Grace Lubega, the founder of Phaneroo Ministries International, will today (8th January, 2021) lead multitudes of Christians in prayer for non-violent and peaceful elections in Uganda.

Voters in the country are due to go to the polls on 14 January 2021 to elect a president, members of parliament and local government representatives, in what is proving to be a contentious season in the country’s history.

“I want all of you Ugandans living in Uganda and outside Uganda, those of you who love peace and the history of this country to join me, we are going to have a power-packed service to pray for the peace of our nation,” Apostle Lubega said during Phaneroo’s Sunday service.

“This is an unction that came last minute and we have to obey God. So we have to pray for the peace of our people, you know we have lost lives of more than 70 people in the campaigning period. We don’t want to see war, we have seen that the devil has tried to do so but through prayers, it will not happen. We must pray for our nation for peace,” he added.

As this website reported, the campaign period in Uganda has been characterized by killings, beatings and violent dispersal of most especially opposition leaders, their supporters and journalists using teargas and rubber bullets.

Government spokesman Ofwono Opondo promised authorities “will ensure that the election will be tranquil.” However, a cross-section of Ugandans do not seem reassured, since security organs have justified the use of force as necessary to ensure compliance with measures to contain COVID-19.

Due to COVID-19 concerns still, the Electoral Commission banned campaign events in some urban areas including Kampala however, the decision was seen by critics as a ploy to limit the opposition, sparking further outrage.

“The Bible teaches us that the earnest and heartfelt prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. Join us as we pray for our Nation… that the peace and redemption of our God may prevail regardless of the times we live in. He is faithful to the end,” Phaneroo Ministries posted on Facebook.

The prayer service will run from 8 pm to 10 pm, and will be broadcast live on all the ministry platforms, including Facebook and Youtube.
