On Tuesday, as multitudes flocked Watoto Church downtown for Day one of ‘Breath of Hope’, a Christmas Cantata production, 68-year-old Florence Kajungu was fully set to sing her heart out to Christ and minister through various Christmas Carols.

The free-to-attend event is often the talk of town once Ugandans near Christmas, drawing both the young and old from various parts of the country.

Stepping on the stage meant that the grandmother of 2 was going to stand, move back and forth or dance for the next one and a half hours – the estimated time for which the production runs.

As the high-energy gospel-centered theatrical production came to its climax, Florence Kajungu seemed completely absorbed in every activity happening on the stage.

At the end, our reporter was able to interact with Florence.

Born in Soroti district in the Eastern region of Uganda, she turned her life over to Christ at a tender age, and soon felt God’s call to minister through music.

Here is the conversation;

UgCN: Thank you for today’s ministration. That was powerful.

Florence : Amen. You are most welcome. I give God the glory.

UgCN: What inspired you to take part in the Christmas production?

Florence : What inspired me is to minister unto the Lord, particularly in this season. I did this to be part of those who encourage the young ones. Before God we are all Children. It is not in my own strength that I stand and minister. I’m able to stand for all that time because Jesus Christ is in me. He is my strength, and He inspires me.

UgCN: For how long have you been part of the Choir?

Florence : I have been part of the choir almost from the beginning of the Church. About 30 years.

UgCN: Often times, we excuse our serves from ministry, and one of the reasons we give is that we are either too young or too old. What keep you serving?

Florence : What keeps me serving is that the Lord has called me to it. And He tells me to do this in righteousness. With God, you are learning something new everyday. This takes you to another level. From that level, you are again inspired to go to another one. He keeps me, and delivers me from whatsoever I am going through.

UgCN: How do you find the training?

Florence : The training was good. It is hectic always, but during production, you don’t feel tired. You are completely refreshed.

UgCN: What has this year’s Christmas production taught you?

Florence : When God created man… Adam, he fell into sin. As a result, God put enmity between Satan and the woman, and between his offspring and hers. Through Christmas we are reminded of God’s fulfillment of a promise to send someone to deliver us and also crush the head of Satan. He is crushed, he has no power over me. We thank Jesus for coming in the flesh, and being with us. He is our deliverer, redeemer, savior and Lord. He is able to do everything. There is nothing I do, and claim to have accomplished it in my own strength.

UgCN: During this season, Christians are reminded of the miracle of Christ’s birth. The Christmas story is a miracle story! What testimony would you like to share with our readers today?

Florence : I have been with the Watoto Church Choir for a long time, and each year is different. This year, it is ‘Breath of hope.’ I have been strengthened and awakened to the fact that their is hope in Jesus Christ. There is no salvation in any other apart from Jesus Christ. Christ has strengthened me and encouraged me each time. My hope is in Christ, and I will always focus on Him alone.

UgCN: Do you have any grand Children?

Florence : Yes! There are two I am currently taking care of. I cannot say it is me who is helping them, but Christ has helped me take them through school. One is 15 years, joining s4 this year at Gayaza HS. The other is doing software engineering at Aptech.
