West Buganda Anglican Diocese has moved the concept of mass wedding, seeking to save couples ready for marriage from the financial burden of organising their ceremony.

In a press conference held at his home at Kako, where he gave his Christmas message, Bishop Henry Katumba Tamale said independent soliciting of funds for a wedding among some Christians causes donor fatigue.

“Many Christians run to respective Christians to solicit funds to arrange their wedding ceremonies and this not only bows them down but also wastes a lot of time,” Bishop Katumba told journalists.

He added that it is always the same Christians that the church runs to for contribution towards its various projects which compounds donor fatigue.

He said the new move will also reduce on the time spent while presiding over one wedding after the other because the church does it once, but on numerous couples.

Under this arrangement, the Church according to Bishop Katumba, will take care of the reception costs.

He said he is certain that that many Christians would not wish to have a joint wedding, but he is happy that some Christians have embraced it and have given him cows which will be served on the reception.

The couples who have been married but out side Holly matrimony and would wish to legalise their marriage before God to were advised to quickly register, saying they only need about 10 couples and start off the program.

UG Chritian news talked to some Christians regarding this move and religiously welcomed it.

“It has been long over due, there are many Chritians who are locked in cohabitating for so many years, said David Waswa, a Chritian at At Paul’s Cathedral Kako.
