National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, sent out a strong message to Church leaders Tuesday as the country commemorates the Janani Luwum day.

The Member of Parliament for Kyadondo County East constituency in Wakiso District accused clergy of timidity, adding that “they fear Museveni more than God.”

Mr Kyagulanyi stated that he wants religious leaders in Uganda today to reflect on the life that Janani Luwum lived.”Religious leaders seem to have turned into business dealers,” he said.

Kyagulanyi’s remarks come up as he continues to accuse state authorities of being behind various abductions reported in the country since the presidential elections were held earlier last month.

Janani Luwum was the third Archbishop of what was then the Church of the Province of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Bogo-Zaire.

On 16 February 1977, he was arrested on false charges by the then Ugandan President Idi Amin and was shot and killed later that day in an attempt to silence religious leaders who challenged Amin on a number of issues.
