Crossover into the new year in prayer

'Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.'

You may not know the impact but all I know is that prayer works, says Evangelist Steven Sebyala.

The New Year can often bring a mixed bag of emotions and memories for many Christians.

The events of 2020 including the Covid-19 pandemic, political unrest, joblessness, injustice and its many forms might have created an unprecedented time of unrest and anxiety.

While some may have just experienced the best year ever and look forward to an even greater one looming ahead, others may have just trudged through one deep struggle after another.

Whatever the case, Evangelist Steven Sebyala urges that a believer’s best response to all conditions of life is prayer.

Through a facebook post, the President of Africa Harvest Mission who doubles as director Family Radio Broadcasting Network urged that one of the prime targets of the devil is to weaken and overthrow your prayer life because then, “your destruction becomes easy.”

“Prayer is a humble communication in speech to God. It is also the exercise of hope and faith and the privilege of touching the heart of the father through His son, Jesus our Lord,” he said.

He continued: “Praying people will always prevail over all evil invasions.”

Uganda’s government earlier this week decided to suspend New Year Eve’s celebrations, including, prayers at places of worship, as a preventive measure against the coronavirus pandemic.

Should this declaration keep you in bed as we crossover into 2021?

Evangelist Steven urges that “prayer works even when you are all alone.”

“Jesus set the best example for us to follow; when His own disciples slept and could no longer stand with him, His heart was exceedingly sorrowful but He persevered in prayer until the Holy Spirit raised a standard that the enemy could not overthrow. Prayer is the only way to go for all of us,” he said.

“Daniel’s testimony is also a great encouragement to us when he took an extra step; extra hour and minute in prayer all hell broke loose around him.  His response was more prayer, not less prayer.  Because he prayed more, the situation elevated him to a better position in life,” the evangelist added.

He urges that Christians should not seek to accomplish things in the strength of their own will, but constantly rely on God thought prayer.

“We pray because we know that God hears us and because we desire to see results. We should pray by faith, trusting God.

“In these times of terrorism threats, political unrest, and economic declines everywhere, God is still committed to answering our prayers but not our complaints, grumblings, fears, and political debates.

“Before our Lord was betrayed, arrested, tortured, and crucified, having perceived what was about to happen, he encouraged his disciples to prepare themselves through prayer, in order to overcome the temptation and darkness and the evil moment that was heading their way,” Evangelist Steven Sebyala concluded.
