Pr Jackson Ssenyonga of Christian Life Church in Bwaise has advised newly-weds to anchor their belief and trust in God to ensure their marriages succeed, and also emphasized the need for parents to stop using negative language while speaking to children.

He pointed out that the newlywed couples should stick together and strive to form strong families, which he said are pillars of a stable nation.

“Marriages are the fibers of a country, and without them the country does not have direction. We need future leaders with values, and they can only be found in a strong family set up,” the Pastor said.

Pr Jackson Ssenyonga made these remarks on Saturday as he presided over a mass wedding of hundreds of Christian couples from different walks of life in Uganda.

The celebration was attended by several Pastors, and the jubilant couples where accompanied by relatives and well wishers.

Pr Jackson expressed concern over couples living in unpalatable conditions which he said are detrimental to their children’s wellbeing.

“I am concerned about the spirit of poverty that reigns in marriages. People have lived together for a very long time, but are unable to make progress. The enemy knows that once families begin to succeed and fulfill the desire of their hearts, he will loose this country,” he said.

“Every national progress begins in family settings. I am really concerned. Due to poverty, our children are exposed to the things they shouldn’t see,” he explained.

“If you ever spoke any negative word against your children, it is working against them as a curse. It is time to reverse it. Those words have damaged their progress, and robed them of the opportunity to rise. It is time now to bless your children,” Ssenyonga said, noting that a wedding is not just a ceremony, “it is an anointed moment”.
