Security officials in Kenya are investigating circumstances under which five Churches were set ablaze in Kenya in a span of just 4 days.

According Citizen TV, the tragic incidences witnessed predominantly in Otamba village, Kisii county, a major urban center in south-western Kenya, all occurred between 1am and 3am – this month.

Citizen TV reported that the first incident was recorded on January 20 when St. Monica Church was burnt in the wee hours of the morning. Barely a day later, the broadcaster says three other worship centres also fell victim.

These included Worldwide Church, Seventh Day Adventist and Legio Maria churches

On Sunday January 24, a pentecostal Church become the latest casualty. Local residents told media reporters the satisfaction of the arsonists is looting items and “seeing the alters of the church literally on fire.”

For the pentecostal Church, “an amateur drawing of what appears to be two persons and a cross (were) the only sign the arsonists (left on the walls) after their early morning attack”

There are 44 million Christians in Kenya – they make up over 80 per cent of the total population. The nation was this month seen on the World Watch List which ranks the 50 countries where it is most difficult for Christians to follow Christ.
