Olupot Marijan, a former sheikh who received Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, is facing the wrath of radical Muslims in Kibuku district located in eastern Uganda.

His wife was rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital following a heartless attack in which his house was set ablaze on 8 June, 2020.

Olupot narrated his ordeal to the media, saying he had kept his new found faith a secret until last month when he decided to tell his two wives and children.

For that matter, he invited his pastor to explain the gospel to his family. Thankfully, one of his wives put her faith in Christ as Lord and Savior, and the other declined, he said.

Olupot explained that his wife who rejected the gospel left the household three weeks later and also told a Muslim leader of the family’s conversion to Christianity, including three children.

Night of the attack

Radical Muslims surrounded the former sheikh’s house at about 11:30 p.m. on 8 June, 2020 and set it ablaze. Olupot, his wife and three children ages 10, 12 and 14 fled through a back door.

“We were fleeing in the night, the attackers managed to get hold of my wife and beat her with sticks, injuring her left hand and back and the right leg, but thank God my Christian neighbors rescued her,” he said.

“As we were fleeing, I heard one of the Muslims, named Hamuza, calling out that the house (worth about 10 million shillings) should be completed destroyed,” he continued.

He and his family have taken refuge in the home of another pastor while the injured wife continues to undergo treatment.

“We need prayers at this trying moment, as the Muslims are out to kill me,” Olupot told Morning Star News. “My other wife is scheming for my death.”
