Gerald Mwebe: Why we must preach the gospel

The power and necessity of the preaching of the Gospel.

By Pastor Gerald Mwebe

“Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.” 2 Corinthians 5:11.

There are three more reasons why we do soul winning.

Firstly, hell is real. If you are a believer and you know of someone who is not saved, take it upon you to preach to them because there is hell.

We read of a rich man in Luke 16:24 who cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’

The rich man also pleaded that a preacher should be sent to his brethren who were still alive but Abraham told him they already have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them. That is why the biggest thing that can happen to any group are preachers. Think about Jesus, he came as a man, he should have chosen to become a lawyer or professor, but he chose to be a preacher.

Thank God you are a preacher and have this precious treasure message in your earthen vessel. It is a great privilege that you are doing the same job that Jesus did, hallelujah!

“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.” Matthew 9:36.

The second reason why we should be committed to the work of preaching is because of compassion.

When we talk about unreached people, is there any sense of compassion in us? There should be. If there is nothing in your heart you need to pray and also evaluate your belief system.

Do you believe in the grace of God and the ultimate price that Jesus paid? Once you do, not only would you want not to sin anymore for grace empowers us to live righteously but also once you get to know that you have been loved eternally, you learn to love people.

William Booth of the Salvation Army said ‘Not called? did you say? Not heard the call I think you should, put your ear down to the Bible. Hear him bid you, go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened agonised heart of humanity. Listen its pitiful wail for hell. Go stand by the gates of hell. Hear the dumbed entreat you to go to their father’s house bid their brothers, masters and servants not to come here. Then look Christ in the face the one you claim to love and he has loved you, look Christ in the face tell him whether you will join in heart and soul and circumstances in the much to publish his mercy to the world.’

Beloved we have received so much. Let us have compassion for people who are going to hell.

“He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:20

Third reason why we should preach the gospel is because of the soon return of Jesus Christ.

He is coming back soon. He might come back tonight. But one may say I have not married yet, yes even when that is so, he is coming back.

Life is just like a whisker, before you know it you are 40, 50 life just passes by just like that. When I was still at university, I used to see men who were 50 then and I would just imagine how aged they were but you know what I thank God. I cannot look back and say ‘I wish I preached when I was 40 or 50.’ I preached every day since I was in my twenties.

The early church 2000 years ago believed Jesus was coming back quickly and they preached urgently but today the dot com church says ‘relax we still have time.’ I tell you there is no time. He is coming quickly.

It is the backslidden church which says you will preach when you are aged. No way! Preach now and don’t procrastinate.
