Brian Byamukama, a pastor at Bethany Baptist Church in Mbale district, Eastern Uganda, and a human rights defender who works on LGBTI issues says that God doesn’t focus on whether one is in a heterosexual or homosexual relationship.

Brian told 76 crimes, an international LGBTI rights activists media blog struggling to repeal anti-LGBTI laws among 76 countries that as long as both are built on love, God doesn’t focus on gender or sexuality but rather on the human being.

The father of one is the founder and Executive Director of Rural Movement Initiative (RUMI), an organization protecting marginalized people in Mbale district.

“Let us spread the word of God without division because salvation is by grace and we have to understand that we are diverse and God is the only judge.” — Brian Byamukama said.

Contrary to the preacher’s statements, it is clear, however, that the Bible condemns homosexuality as an immoral and unnatural sin. Leviticus 18:22 identifies homosexual sex as an abomination.

Despite pressure from religious leaders, Uganda’s constitutional court in March 2014 overturned the anti-homosexuality law that punished gay sex with long prison sentences and was condemned by Western and other donors, some of whom withheld aid in protest.

“There is no difference between a thief, a robber, a prostitute and a homosexual,” Pastor Joseph Serwadda, who heads Kampala’s 6,000 member-strong Victory Christian Centre Church told journalists then.
