Worship Pastor, song-writer, and recording artiste Sachi Basaki is encouraging young people to pursue holiness.

He explained Monday how one’s weaknesses are opportunities for Christ’s power to be revealed through dependence and faith, and should not be used as an excuse to continuously engage in sin.

Basaki defined sin is any act done contrary to the Word of God, adding that sin separate men from God.

“Of-course nothing can separate us from the love of God, but sin is an ingredient that causes a cloud around us to not be seen or be heard by God though His love and Grace abound,” he explained, later quoting Isaiah 59:1-4.

It reads (KJV):

“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.”

A recent study by Barna Group found that half of young churchgoers perceive Christianity to be “judgmental, hypocritical, and too political.” Furthermore, the same research also found one-third of young churchgoers perceive Christianity as “old-fashioned and out of touch with reality.”

The War Within: Flesh Versus Spirit

Quoting Romans 8:7-14, Basaki urged the youth to surrender any and every cherished idol, vice, or sin to God, and say ‘no’ to the desires of the flesh.

“You cannot walk in the flesh and at the same time please God,” he said.

He went on: “The flesh (which is the carnal state of mind fed by evil desires and entice ) is enmity to God… Set a standard for your flesh and use the authority and Power (Holy-Spirit ) that you already have within you to command it with the necessary yes/ no!”

The ‘My Melody’ singer who serves with Miracle Centre Cathedral – Rubaga encouraged the young generation to pursue peace with everyone. He then quoted Hebrews 12:14, which reads: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”

Living according to the Word

“You can only pursue something that you really need… I know this could sounds cliché but prayer and meditating on the Word of God is and always will be the way to living a holy and a pure life for a young person,” Basaki said.

He made reference to Psalms 199:9 which says: “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.”

“God is calling this generation to Holiness and righteousness, He is very concerned about us ,However we have to put in an effort by yielding to the His spirit and completely surrender Jesus Christ His son, the Vine. (John 15:5)! NB: Where there’s total surrender, Sin totally loses its grip,” Basaki said.
