Nigerian gospel musician David Ekene Daniel, whose smash hit single “Tomorrow must be greater” inspired Christians worldwide, is expected in Kampala this week.
David, who also doubles as a Pastor, will minister at a charity event aimed at raising funds to build a home for children with Down Syndrome.
This will happen on the 6th of December 2019 at Lugogo Cricket Oval
Speaking to a local media source, Irene Nabossa the brain behind the charity event said children suffering from the dysfunction will be present on the show.
“I was touched seeing kids in in this condition, with parents who are in terrible need of help. Thus my bid to assist, by launching a campaign that will help me gather some little money, to be able to construct for them a home,” she told Daily Monitor’s Sqoop.
Tickets to the event go for Ush20,000 ordinary, Ush50,000 VIP and a table for 1 million Ugandan shillings.
Very little has been done to create awareness about Down Syndrome in Uganda, according to The Uganda Down Syndrome Association (TUDSA).
It is usually associated with physical growth delays, mild to moderate intellectual disability, and characteristic facial features.
Accurate figures on the number of children in the nation with the genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21 are not available, although the number of babies born with the is estimated at about 1 in 1,000 births, according to TUDSA.
With a Ugandan population of 36 million, this translates to about 36,000 people with Down Syndrome in Uganda.
“The general perception about having a child with Down Syndrome is that parents think it is a either a curse from God, the effect of family planning pills or injectable family planning methods,” TUDSA says.
