Police have confirmed the arrest of Joseph Kabuleta, vision bearer of The Watchman Ministries, on charges of ‘offensive communication’ against President Yoweri Museveni.

The Watchman Ministries started in 2014 “with a specific mandate to awaken the church towards the reality of the soon return of Jesus Christ.”

According to media sources, Mr Kabuleeta who is also a former journalist, was arrested by plain-cloth detectives from a restaurant at Forest Mall, Lugogo, Kampala on Friday evening.

The spokesperson of Criminal Investigations Directorate, Mr Charles Twine confirmed his arrest and detention.

“He has been arrested on offensive communication charges and he has been detained,” Mr Twine stated.

Hours later, The Watchman Ministries used social media to appeal for prayer, quoting Acts 12:5 which says; Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

The post however received criticism from a section of users who faulted the preacher for political, and not gospel related remarks.

Mr Kabuleeta, sources report, has been publishing articles on his social media platforms about the succession battle that is raging withing the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Mr Museveni, the incumbent president and NRM chairman has been in power for 33 years.

“Under “Joseph Kabuleta Weekly Rant Returns,” referring to the Fountain of Honor as “a Gambler, Thief and Liar”. Section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act, 2011, criminalizes such acts of communication,” Press and Public Relations Officer for the Uganda Police Force CP Fred Enanga told Journalists on Thursday.

“The public is further advised to think first about what they say on social media. The joint forces will continue using the acquired capabilities to monitor comments on social media and any offenders will be investigated and punished. Investigations into the conduct of Joseph Kabuleta are ongoing and more information will be availed as investigations unfold,” he added.
