Kabuleta released

Kabuleta released on bond after lawyers file application for habeas corpus

By Our Reporter

Police on Tuesday evening released Watchman Ministries founder and former sports journalist Joseph Kabuleta on Police bond.

Mr Charles Twine, the Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson told Journalists if the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) determines that the evidence they have assembled is sufficient to warrant prosecution, “we will rearrest him,” he said.

This update comes hours since believers camped at the SID in Kireka, demanding that their Pastor be produced in court. At the same time, his lawyers had applied for a petition for habeas Corpus urging that their client was being held “unlawfully.”

“The man has been released on bond as the DPP studies his case file,” Mr Charles Twine said Tuesday.

Kabuleta was arrested on offensive communication charges against the person of the President and detained last week on Friday.

Press and Public Relations Officer for the Uganda Police Force CP Fred Enanga explained that the arrest was particularly due to social media posts “Joseph Kabuleta Weekly Rant returns,” in which he referred to the Fountain of Honor  (President Yoweri Museveni) as “a Gambler, Thief and Liar”.

Section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act, 2011, criminalizes such acts of communication, Enanga said.

It should be noted that Mr Joseph Kabuleta’s lawyer, spouse and medical doctor were denied access to the preacher during his 4 days in jail.
