Light the world Church senior Pastor Wilson Bugembe has said Uganda’s inspector General of Police, General Edward Kalekezi Kayihura is a special gentleman and a gift to this nation.

This statement was a caption to a photo that he [Wilson Bugembe] shared with his online audience recently, revealing that the 61-year-old, whose contact as Inspector General of Police was renewed for another three years has a tough job.

“No man is perfect, I wonder how you sleep and wake up when you are the Inspector General of Police,” Pastor Bugembe said. He has a tough job, no man is perfect but Gen Kayihura is a special gentleman and a gift to this nation.”

Amid overdue speculations, it was only confirmed early last week that President Yoweri Museveni extended Kayihura’s contract as Inspector General of Police for another three years.

According to URA, President Museveni in a March 14th letter asked the Parliamentary Appointments Committee approve three-year contract extensions for Kayihura and his deputy, Assistant Inspector General of Police Okoth Ochola.

Article 213 of the 1995 Constitution provides that the IGP and his deputy shall be appointed by the President with the approval of Parliament.

If he secures parliamentary approval and sees out his contract in 2020, Kayihura will have served as police chief for 15 years, having been appointed to the position in 2005, the source said, additionally citing a group of activists that wrote to the Speaker of Parliament, Rebeca Kadaga, asking her to decline approval of General Kayihura’s reappointment.

“We pray God heals the wounds of the recent loss of our hero the late Kaweesi. We pray for you that your reign will be a reign of peace and no disaster like the reign of King Solomon.” Pr Bugembe said, quoting popular scripture 1 Chronicles 22:9.

Notably, Pr Bugembe’s comment and photo drew a few mixed reactions from his fans on social media.
