Learn to live by divine guidance – Joseph Ngooma

'Recognizing God’s voice and obeying Him is critical in our Christian walk.'

When we honor God in our decisions and allow Him to fully guide our steps in life, we’re setting ourselves up for success, gospel musician and Pastor Joseph Ngooma has said.

In an update on February 14, Pastor Joseph Ngooma observed that Christians today need to learn to focus on God’s voice and make a determined decision to believe Him more than what they feel or what their circumstances look like.

He said the Lord is a communicating God, and He delights in giving divine guidance to those who seek Him.

Pastor Ngooma explained that as Christians give God more control over every area of their lives, He speaks within their spirits, guiding them toward accomplishing His purpose, and confirming His pleasure at their obedience.

“God is able to speak to everybody. It is His voice that saves us,” he said.

“Many of us have been instructed by God to do specific tasks or leave certain places, where we still are today. We have taken no action because we don’t know how to discern His voice. This is how Samuel was too (1 Samuel 3),” Pastor Ngooma noted.

According to biblical scholars, the Old Testament story of Samuel has so much to say about listening to God today. Samuel was sleeping in the tabernacle when he heard a voice calling his name: “Samuel!”. He mistook it as the voice of Eli the priest, who he went running to.

When the mysterious experience happened the third time, Eli realised it was God who was speaking. He then guided Samuel in how to respond: “if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening’”.

“God does not look at how old you are, or how much knowledge you have about Him in-order to call you. He simply calls you,” Pastor Ngooma explained, noting that if one seeks to know God’s voice, then he or she must be willing to hear everything He says.

Pastor Ngooma urged that it is nearly impossible to hear God’s voice when we are listening to every other voice besides His.

“Many are still held up, simply because they have refused to obey God’s voice,” he said.
