Lets engage in ceaseless intercession for Uganda

As our nation finds itself in highly divisive seasons, our tendency can be to draw firm lines between ourselves based on who we support, and that can in turn lead to anger towards those who are not, and eventually division.

It’s clear there is a fight going on for the soul of our nation. I don’t know about you but I have a hard time watching or listening to the news sometime. As Christians, we are to be those who stand in the gap, who lift up our nation with all it favors and faults before the throne of God, and pray that He continues to work in our midst.

A nation begins to crumble because its people follow their own evil ways. But what can you do? It’s times like these when we need to turn to the Lord in intercessory prayer. Jesus teaches the value of two or more believers meeting together in His name and praying in complete agreement.

Exodus 17; Joshua and his army fought the Amalekites in the valley. Moses’ hands were extended heavenward on the hilltop. It soon became clear that the victory in the valley was directly dependent on the invisible battle on the hilltop.

Moses became weary, so Aaron and Hur joined him by holding up his “intercessory” hands.

Intercession is warfare. But we can be sure – on our knees, with the Word of God spread out in front of us, we have weapons strong enough to destroy all strongholds over Uganda.

The battleground is not of this earth. This takes place in this spiritual world where the battles for our own lives, our families, our friends and our nation are won or lost.

The Bible says, “We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and spiritual powers in the heavens above” (Eph. 6:12).

Intercession is prayer that pleads with God for your needs and the needs of others. But it is also much more than that. Intercession involves taking hold of God’s will and refusing to let go until His will comes to pass.

Romans 8 verses 26 and 27, we see God the Father on the throne, and the Holy Spirit making intercession for us with “groanings that cannot be uttered.” Yes, the Holy Spirit identifies and groans with us in our weaknesses, interpreting and intensifying our prayers.

No matter how many ministers of the gospel have fallen. No matter how alarming divisions in churches have grow. No matter how aggressive false prophets get. No matter how insecure the country’s political climate gets. No matter how much your family is hurting – Jesus Christ is the solution to Uganda.

You are God’s son or daughter as long as you accepted and welcomed Him into your life to be Lord and Savior (John 1:12). As His child, you have a direct “hotline” to God. At any time, you can boldly come into His presence (Heb. 4:16)

This incredible access to God is the basis for intercession. Once you are before God, you can now discover His battle plan for the situation you are facing. Because prayer alone is not enough — you need a target for your prayers! (Romans 12:2).

Intercessory prayer is also prayer that doesn’t give up! It’s the kind of prayer that endures all setbacks and overcomes every obstacle. It’s prayer that “presses on” until we “apprehend” God’s will in whatever situation we are facing (see Phil. 3:12, KJV).

Battling for our nation

Throughout the Bible, God searched for those willing to fight the spiritual battle for their land. In Ezekiel, God says, “And I searched for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found no one” (Ezek. 22:30, NASB).

He is not looking for perfect prayer warriors, just willing hearts who want to see His will come to pass on the earth. All you have to do is turn to the Lord in prayer.
