'Time has come for us to surrender to God, and have self-control.'

Pastor Irene Kasirivu, wife of Pastor Peter Kasirivu of Gaba Community Church, has condemned discord and hatred within the body of Christ .

She explained in her sermon on 29 December that such acts foster internal turmoil, with the end result of weakening congregations and turning off believers.

“God is calling upon us to have a good and healthy relationship with the people around us,” she said.

“He created us in His own image. He created us to be relational. He wants us to love one another,” Pastor Irene added. “Let us not be jealousy. Let us have good discipline. Let us have the values of working together as brothers and sisters.

The preacher noted that believers should live in such a way that will glorify God. “Let us always be sensitive even when we are working with people who do not know us,” she explained.

Pastor Irene exhorted the congregation to avoid being “lukewarm” Christians. The concept comes from Revelation 3, where Jesus criticizes a church for being full of believers who were neither hot nor cold.

“God is not calling upon us to be lukewarm people. He expects us to love Him with all our hearts. He expects us to love Him from the deepest of who we are, and to let Him be the first one in our lives. Let us follow His footsteps because that is the assignment He has given us. Let us move along with him. Even when you feel that He’s delaying you, just allow him to lead you. That is how you’re going to succeed,” she said.

“May God help us gear our energy towards His will, towards service, towards honoring Him, because at the end of it all, when you waste your energy, you are not going to gain anything,” she said. “We do not serve because we don’t have anything to do. We serve God because of the love He has for us.”
