The State Minister of Health for General Duties Sarah Achieng Opendi linked ‘health issues’ to prolonged Bible reading during the launch of the Dhopadhola Bible at Busitema University’s Nagongera Campus.

This is according to the Nile Post, an online news platform affiliated to NBS TV, which quoted the 50-year-old as saying that spending a lot of time reading the Bible can lead to non-communicable diseases.

Minister Sarah Achieng Opendi, who is also the Woman MP for Tororo, “discouraged Christians from concentrating on reading the Bible while ignoring other activities as this inactivity may lead to health-related challenges”, the Nile Post reported on Monday.

Christians on social media who read the Minister’s remarks expressed mixed reactions with some refuting the claims.

“It is unfortunate that this is coming from a minister,” one user said.

“She’s a joker,” another said.

Majority said Bible reading is of paramount importance to living with a peaceful healthy mind.
