LUGALA – Pastor Imelda Namutebi Kula on Friday received an unexpected visit from Dr Joseph Serwadda who she described as a ‘spiritual father’ in her speech.

The senior Pastor of Liberty Worship Centre lnternational located in Lugala, Kampala district urged Christians to respect and obey spiritual leaders, noting that dishonor ends relationships.

“From their anointing we have become who we are,” she said

Pastor Imelda’s remarks come amid growing contention between ‘spiritual fathers’ and sons/daughters in the country. This evidence is backed up by heated verbal comments in media.

She said excellence in ministry is attained by “maximum obedience, respect and serving your father (spiritual parent).”

“Sons that don’t respect their parents die young and retard in ministry,” she noted on Sunday, quoting Genesis 13:1-6.

For the born-again Church, the terms ‘spiritual fathers’ and ‘spiritual sons/daughters’ are grounded in several scriptures including 2 Timothy 1:2, Titus 1:4.

Paul referred to both Timothy and Titus as his “spiritual” sons. He also spoke in the spiritual sense of having fathers in the faith (1 Corinthians 4:15, Philippians 2:19-22).

Further more, according to Christian teachings, a spiritual father’s primary goal is to make the son/daughter successful in knowing the Lord, and fulfilling the call of God on their life. The spiritual father or mother will pour out knowledge, understanding, wisdom, counsel, and blessing to the son/daughter.
