MASAKA. West Buganda Diocese, Bishop Henry Katumba Tamale, has tasked priests to stay with their wives at their church parishes of appointments.

During the ordination of deacons yesterday, at St Paul’s Cathedral Kako, the seat of West Buganda Diocese, Bishop Katumba said that his observation in the 104 parishes that he has visited is that most priests don’t stay with their wives, which he said it is not good.

“I argue to stay with your wives, stop living them to stay at your homes. I also have a home in Kampala but moved with my Wife’ Bishop Katumba said.

He said this is good because it deters them from the likely consequences like temptation.

Twelve ordinands where made deacons and await to be deployed in different church parishes under West Buganda Diocese, but were also told to go to their station with their wives.

Rev Canon Albert Samuel Senkeeto, the former Luwero Diocesan Secretary who was the guest preacher urged to sacrifice them and serve the Lord who has called them, despite the enormous challenges that await them.

He said they should defy the notion that ‘in this error things like corruption are possible’ and be different from the rest.

He also in his sermon, lashed out at politicians who don’t want them to speak about political issues claiming that they (Priests) are not limited at the alter.

“Am telling you politicians, don’t lock us at the altar. You must appreciate our role to speak for our people wherever they hurt by policies brought on board by leaders,” Canon Senkeeto said, adding,” It is our duty to defend our people because we baptized them and need to be concerned about their well being

However to his dismay, politicians don’t want the clergy to make a single comment about political issues and always accuse them (priests) when they do so, citing a recent case where Hajji Abdul Naduli, the Minister Without Portfolio who attacked Priests for speaking about the controversial age limit amendment. “The minister was totally wrong.”
