Uganda Christian News (UgCN) on Friday received a prestigious award for supporting gospel music in the country during the 2019 Viga Music Awards that took place at Serena Hotel in Kampala.

The ‘Most supportive Social media personality/platform of the year’ award honours online media platforms and individuals who, despite difficult circumstances, produce pioneering news reports on current events happening within the gospel fraternity.

Other media platforms nominated under the same category included JC Label, GMP, UG Extra, Gospel Modes among others.

While accepting the award, Uganda Christian News team leader and chief editor Aaron Sseruyigo, expressed gratitude for the recognition and said he was humbled by the support and trust demonstrated by multitudes who voted.

“We honestly didn’t see this coming,” he said, thanking God.

Aaron was in the company of Ms Karen Alecho, the Uganda Christian News programs director.

UG Christian News incorporated as Christian Direct Limited started full operation in July 2016, covering faith, culture and intentional living.

The stories the website publishes are at the intersection of where a Christ-centered life is really lived.

“We want to engage Uganda and Africa at large, in a deeper conversation about faith, challenging worldviews and giving voice to what God is doing in and through our generation. We are independent, and very committed to excellence in journalism and mass communication,” Aaron said.

“We salute and appreciate every media platform and individual committed to taking the gospel to all the ends of the earth. This Award is recognition of teamwork, dedication and selflessness of a remarkable group of individuals who I work with. They have invested a lot of resources to see this dream become a reality, We are not yet there, but each step is one we take in faith,” he added.

The speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga was the chief guest at the awarding ceremony. The first Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni was represented by first daughter Natasha Karugire.
