Speaking during the weekly ‘Free My Vote’ prayers at the FDC offices in Mbarara Town yesterday, Mr Peter Byamukama, the FDC publicity secretary for western Uganda announced that party supporters in the region will hold peaceful demonstrations on a daily to protest the expected swearing-in of President Museveni next month.

He said that the demonstrations start will immediately and go on until the day the President is sworn-in.  He also asked youth in the region to support the party demand for recognition of Dr Besigye as the winner of the election.

“FDC has decided to ask for what belongs to the people through peaceful demonstrations; we are invoking Article 1 of Uganda’s Constitution, which says that all power belongs to the people. We, therefore, ask youth to support this cause and we rescue Uganda from tyranny,’’ said Mr Byamukama.

Mr Byamukama alleged they are rallying Ugandans to stop Mr Museveni from swearing-in saying having used State machinery to grab the people’s victory and denying Dr Besigye a chance to reach his supporters.

He also said they plan to walk to Kasangati in Wakiso where Dr Besigye resides, on the day of swearing-in to install their candidate who was chosen by the people of Uganda.

Mr Byamukama also said that they have informed President Museveni, and all concerned parties about their intentions to hold the peaceful demonstrations

The prayers were led by Mr Davis Nizeyimana, who said that he is a priest at All Saints Church Mbarara. During the prayers, he said, “today’s Ugandan is in captivity but when God decides their guns will be no more so let us join the struggle now,”

It should however be noted that Mr Vincent Ssekate, the Rwizi regional police spokesperson, speaking to Daily Monitor sources said that he was not aware if FDC officials had notified the police.
