What does the empty tomb mean to you?

He came out of the grave before the angel came to roll back the stone.

By Pastor Hanning Mutukiriza

“And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.” (Matthew 28:2)

This is the moment when we read these scriptures with pride.

The angel of the Lord caused commotion at the grave when he rolled back the stone. I have heard some preachers say that it was after the angel removed the stone that Jesus came out of the grave. But when the angel rolled back the stone, the grave was empty and in verse 6 the angel said, “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”

In other words the angel came to show these women that the grave was empty, Jesus had risen. So now, how did He rise and get out of the closed grave?

John 20: 19, says, “then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.”

How did Jesus after rising from the dead enter a room that had been shut without opening the door? He did so because that is the very same way He got out of the grave. Though He had a body, it was a resurrection body.

The good news is that this is the same life we are living. We don’t care who closes the doors. We don’t care who stands in our way. If He came out of the grave, we shall come out of every temptation, we shall come out every sickness and whatever the devil has thrown on our way.

He came out of the grave before the angel came to roll back the stone.
