President Yoweri Museveni together with the first lady, Mrs Janet Museveni over the weekend attended a gospel crusade in Western Uganda, organised by Covenant Nations Church where Patience Rwabwogo Museveni, is lead pastor.

As part of the crusade’s activities, the Head of State anointed the ground of Bunyoro with oil, after which both leaders of government and church made a commitment to turn away from among other evil practices, witchcraft, idolatry, sorcery, ancestral worship, superstition, sexual immorality, corruption, extortion and fornication.

Pastor Patience Rwabwogo explained that she believes Bunyoro has a special part to play in the destiny and future of Uganda, and that “it is only in dealing with these spiritual foundations that we will be able to move forward into true liberty and progress,” she said.

“Bunyoro has always played a pivotal role in the history of our country. The ancient Bunyoro-Kitara empire, which later splintered into smaller regional kingdoms, was the center of political, economic, and social life,” Pastor Patience Rwabwogo said in a release.

Adding: “It was Bunyoro under the leadership of Omukama Kabalega that resisted the British colonizers and sought to unite the kingdoms against them. To the same degree as there were benefits there were also many evils practiced in the kingdom especially idolatry, witchcraft, violence, shedding of innocent blood, pride, and sexual immorality. The Bible declares in 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 that the role of the church is to reconcile people back to God and this includes the land.”

During this crusade, church leaders repented of unforgiveness, bitterness and what was described as “failing to tend God’s flock as the Word of God instructs.”

“My prayer for Bunyoro is that you will recognize that it is the LORD who is visiting you again; He is giving you another chance to fulfil your destiny,” said the First Lady.

“Choose to forgive and let go of the past so that you can receive the future that God has for you. I am confident that if you make that choice, the Lord will restore Bunyoro and make it a praise in the midst of Uganda and the nations.”

The crusade organizers laid emphasis on 2 Chronicles 7:14 which says, “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
