Police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi has been shot dead Friday morning. Police at the scene report that the vehicle he was travelling in was shot at by unknown gunmen.

His body guard, Corporal Erau Kenneth and driver Constable Geoffrey Mambewa were also shot dead, Police confirms.

There is heavy security deployment in Kulambiro – Kisaasi, a location within the city Kampala where this incident occurred.

The crime scene has been cordoned off, bodies taken to the mortuary at Mulago referral Hospital.

“We ask Ugandans to remain calm as Police put their hands together to manage the situation.” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima has told journalists.

Confirmed sources report that Kaweesi was heading to the Police headquarters, then Uganda Christian University to speak to the finalists about graduate opportunities in the police

A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have arrived at the scene, including Grace Akullo, CIID Director, IGP Gen Kale Kayihura and Fred Enanga, a former police spokesperson among others.

Kaweesi had on Thursday night had an interview with NTV Uganda addressing Ugandans on the Kasese Shootings report rejected by government.
