The State Minister of Finance for Planning in the Cabinet of Uganda Hon David Bahati says more Christians should be engaged in politics and policy-making.
Speaking during the 24th Annual Ministers Conference hosted by Bishop David Living Stone Kiganda (PhD) at Christianity Focus Centre – Mengo, Kisenyi, Hon David Bahati said Uganda needs more God fearing people involved in politics and government as they are in all other realms of life.
“Sometimes people say politics is dirty. It is dirty because we have dirty people in politics. If good and clean people joined politics, then it will be a clean game. I want to encourage Christians, don’t fear to join politics. We need God fearing people in this space,” he said.
Hon David Bahati, who is also Ndorwa West MP commended Bishop Kiganda for media channels, Kingdom TV and radio which he said present a better alternative to what the “world offers” and broadcast a “sound and solid voice” in a world where we have “polluted voices.”
The conference started 21st July, 2019 and is expected to continue till 28th July under the theme, ‘What do you have in your house’ inspired by 2 Kings 4:2.
In his submission hinged on the conference theme, Hon Bahati stated that if God is going to make a miracle in one’s life, he starts from somewhere.
“The Bible records the famous miracle of Jesus Christ feeding 5000 people with only five loaves of bread. His first question to the disciples before he performed the miracle was, what do you have? Don’t expect a miracle if you have nothing. We have seen people with 7 vehicles packed in their homes, buy they are struggling to find capital,” Minister Bahati said.
“God is a just God, he made sure that each one of us has something. All of us have equal time; whether it is Pope Francis or President Museveni. No one has more than 24 hours in a day, but how are you using your time.” he continued.
“As we speak now, our country is 40 million people. Out of the 40 million, 78% are young people between the ages of 15-35. And you know the energies of young people. We know what young people can do, so Uganda has a resource to change the destiny of our country. These are people who can make a significant contribution to our country. Japan is crying because majority of their people are now in the 70’s and 80’s,” he said.
“Uganda is a blessed country, we have good weather, a human resource and oil. So far what we have discovered is that the oil we have can sustain us for the next 30 years. The iron ore we have in Kigezi can sustain the steel industry for the next 100 years; the gold we have in Karamoja and other areas. We have abundant resources to develop our country. The question is, how are we using what we have to develop our country?” he stated.
Bishop Kiganda described Hon David Bahati as a born-again believer who fears the Lord, and is always there to fight for the values of the Kingdom of God.
